Monitoring
Check if the inverter is still working: is the green light on during daylight? If it is, the inverter is functioning. In that case, only the internet connection has dropped.
Has your Wi-Fi password changed? Then this password must also be changed in the inverter. Click here for the step-by-step guide to change the Wi-Fi password in the inverter.
Is the connection between the router and the inverter made using Powerline Adapters?
-> Yes, I have Powerline Adapters
Powerline Adapters provide an internet connection via the electrical network. You always have at least two at home: one is connected to the inverter via a data cable, and the other is connected to the router via a data cable. Powerline Adapters can sometimes lose the connection. This is often easily fixed with a reset.
Note: Powerline Adapters work best when plugged directly into a socket and not into an extension lead with a power strip. Also, avoid using Powerline Adapters from different brands (e.g., TP-Link and Devolo) as this increases the risk of problems.
Step 1: Unplug both Powerline Adapters from the socket. All green LED lights on the Powerline Adapters will then go out.
Step 2: Then, unplug the data cables from the Powerline Adapters and plug them back in after a few seconds.
Step 3: Plug the Powerline Adapters back into the socket.
Step 4: Finally, all green LED lights should light up again on both Powerline Adapters. It also often helps to turn the router off and on again. Note: a router always takes a few minutes to fully power up again.
-> No, I don’t have Powerline Adapters
Then we have instructions for you to reset the inverter.
Step 1: Turn off the power on the AC side.
Turn off the solar power group in the fuse box (recognisable by the Zonnefabriek sticker) by flipping the switch down.
Step 2: Turn off the power on the DC side.
Then go to the inverter. There is a rotary knob on the left side of the device. Turn it from ‘1’ to ‘0’.
Step 3: Wait until all LED lights on the inverter are off.
The device is now switched off on both the AC and DC sides, but there is still residual voltage. You can see this by the LED lights. After about half a minute, the lights will go out, and the device will be completely de-energised.
Step 4: Turn the DC side back on
Now we will restart the device, starting with the DC side. Turn the rotary knob on the inverter back to ‘1’. If it is correctly positioned, the green light on the inverter will start to blink slowly.
Step 5: Turn the AC side back on
Finally, go back to the fuse box. Turn the solar power group back on by flipping the switch up.
Step 6: Wait for the data to come through
After some time, the data will start coming through again. The graphs of the daily, monthly, and yearly yield will usually be visible again in Sunny Portal and My Zekerzon after a few hours.
If your inverter communicates with the router via WiFi, a WiFi password is set in the inverter. If you change providers or routers, or if you change your WiFi password, this must also be changed in the inverter. This step-by-step guide explains how to do this. This guide only applies to SMA inverters equipped with WiFi.
Would you prefer to be guided through this process with a video? Watch the explanation in the video below.
Step 1: Before you start
Make sure you have two codes at hand: the WA2-PSK code of the inverter and the new WiFi password. The WPA2-PSK code consists of 16 characters and can be found on the label on the inverter (on the right side of the device) or on the sticker on the back of the inverter’s manual.
Step 2: Find the inverter’s WiFi network
First, you need to log in to the inverter itself. On a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, search the list of available WiFi networks for the inverter’s network. This network starts with the letters ‘SMA’ and ends with several numbers (the inverter’s serial number). If the WiFi network does not appear, reset the inverter to restart the WiFi. Click here for the step-by-step guide on how to reset the inverter.
Step 3: Connect to the WiFi network
The SMA network requires a password. Enter the 16-character WPA2-PSK password here. The password is case-sensitive. Click ‘Connect’. If you have entered the password correctly, it will say: ‘Connected, no internet’. This is correct: your laptop, tablet, or smartphone is now connected to the inverter but not to the internet.
Step 4: Het IP-adres invullen
Now open a browser on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone. For example, Safari on the iPhone or Google Chrome on an Android phone. Type the following IP address into the browser’s address bar: 192.168.12.3. If the SMA screen does not appear, try the IP address 192.168.100.1.
Step 5: Log in
To log in, choose the user group ‘Installer’ and use the password consisting of the 4 digits of your postcode followed by an underscore and in lowercase letters ‘zf’. It will be like this: 1234AB_zf. Then click ‘Login’.
Step 6: Start the installation wizard
Once logged in, start the installation wizard. Do this by clicking on ‘User Settings’ and then on ‘Start the Installation Wizard’.
Step 7: Network configuration
The next step is ‘Network Configuration’. Scroll down here and click on ‘WLAN’.
Step 8: Choose the new WiFi network
You will see a list of all available WiFi networks. One of the networks should be the new router’s network. If this network is not listed, you can perform a ‘WLAN scan’ via the button at the bottom of the page.
Step 9: Change the network settings
Click on the gear icon next to the WiFi network.
Step 10: Find the WiFi password
Click on the ‘WLAN Settings’ box that appears.
Step 11: Enter the WiFi password
Enter the WiFi password in the ‘WLAN Password’ box and click ‘Connect to WLAN Network’.
Step 12: Check the status
If the connection is successful, a green checkmark will appear.
Step 13: Proceed to the next page
Scroll down and click ‘Save and Continue’.
Step 14: Finish
After this step, you will go through several pre-filled pages. All you need to do here is click the ‘Save and Continue’ button at the bottom of the page each time. Eventually, you will reach a page called ‘Summary’. Click ‘Continue’ at the bottom.
If all is well, the inverter is now connected to your new router. The blue LED light on the inverter will light up continuously if the connection is successful. The graphs in Sunny Portal or My Zekerzon will usually reappear after a few hours.

If you have an SMA inverter with a QR code, you can quickly log in to the inverter with your smartphone. We describe here how to do this using the SMA Energy App, so make sure you have this app installed on your smartphone.
Step 1: The SMA Energy App
Open the SMA Energy App on your phone. The login details for the SMA Energy App are the same as those for Sunny Portal (your username is your email address).
Step 2: Settings
Once logged in, click on the ‘settings’ icon at the bottom right of the homepage.
Step 3: QR code scanner
Scroll down on the ‘Settings’ page of the app until you reach ‘Quick Access via QR Code’. When you click on this, a page with a blue button saying ‘Activate Scanner’ will appear. Click on this.
Step 4: Scan the QR code
Point your smartphone at the QR code on the inverter. The smartphone will now automatically guide you to the inverter’s login screen.
Step 5: Log in
To log in, choose the user group ‘Installer’ and use the password consisting of the 4 digits of your postcode followed by an underscore and in lowercase letters ‘zf’. It will be like this: 1234AB_zf. Then click ‘Login’.
